I've been working with MPM to help create and make better Scout programs. Part of that has been to help align to the cub scout themes and make programs that address various achievements and big ideas, instead of just belt loops.
You can find information on the education pages at: http://www.mpm.edu/education/family/scouts/index.php We have three programs planned at this point: Sat Oct. 13, 2007, Sat Nov. 17, 2007, and Sat Mar. 1, 2008. Cost for these is only $10/scout. There are also "public overnights" - they need 120 people to run the overnight. These include a snack, an imax or planetarium film, breakfast, and a guided flashlight tour overnight. They could also put a Scout program in place for you if you'd like? Cost is about $38/person- adults are required. -------------------- Pack 324, Waterford

Interesting, I did not know the MPM had scout programs.
March 1st was a scheduled Field trip day for us so this would work nicely. Thanks for sharing -------------------- District Membership Chair

I just talked to the family of one of our Scouts who was able to make the Geologist Beltloop program at MPM this last weekend. Mom had a wonderful glowing review of the program stating it was professional and well organized, and worth the money since it also included admission to the museum in addition to the workshop.
The Cub specific programs are over for the spring, but there is an overnight program planned for Friday night, June 20th if you would like to take your pack. If there are enough Scouts, they will customize a program toward your needs. Also, I'm thinking about doing something down there for JotA/JotI. That would be the third weekend in October - a great time to do an overnight! If we can bring it together, we would have a ham radio station, JotI clients (IRC@Scoutnet), videoconferencing around the world, and possibly more. Sleepover would be in the cultural exhibits - sleep in the Rainforest, in the European village, by the snakes in Africa... Maybe we could even show something like "night at the museum" in the IMAX! To pull something like this off, we would need lots of volunteers and LOTS of Scouts. (Try and staff the whole museum for an overnight!?) We'll see if the museum bites at something like this, and then I'll be asking you all if you're willing to help with what could be a very cool Cub mini-jamboree! -------------------- Pack 324, Waterford
