Although our Pack had "done flags" at the start of each Pack meeting for years, it consisted of a very simple marching of the pack and US flags out to the flag stands, and then the Pledge of Allegience.

During Woodbadge, I got excited about what a flag ceremony COULD be.

I began looking for historic flags to borrow, but I ended up finding a guy on eBay who agreed to sell me flags for $4.25 each + $1 shipping. I've ordered World Scouting flags, Wisconsin flags, and some historic flags as well. This seemed like a really great investment for me since I will have these flags for a long time.

I'm going to try to post some of the flag ceremonies that I write for Pack 324 over the next couple of months. They are greatly simplified for Cub Scouts so that they don't take very long, and the language is simplified.

Please feel free to use or adapt any of these for your pack. If you have wonderful flag ceremonies, or tips, PLEASE share them. Maybe if we get enough of them together, I'll ask Ken to make a separate folder for them here.

For January 2008, we used a checkered flag to support Cub Scout Car Show.

In February 2008 we will use a WOSM flag for Chinese New Year.

I'm still looking for flags to support some of the other coming themes...

This was my Jan 2008 Flag Ceremony. We used a checkered flag. The text is included in the attached doc.

This is the WOSM flag hanging in a classroom in my building. We're going to use it for our Chinese New Year theme. They are available from WOSM for about $40 shipped from France, or you can find them on eBay for about $5.

I'm going to modify the attached long narrative for my Cub Scouts, but since I'm lifting most of it from this wonderful ceremony I found on the Atlanta Council website, it seemed more appropriate to repost the original here.

March's theme is Litter to Glitter -

We used a blue flag with a 1970 NASA shot of Earth on it. I didn't have one of these (although they were available for $5 on ebay), but I was able to borrow one from the Parks and Land Use department of Waukesha County.

[I talked to Annalyse Smith. She got the flag from the recycling center, where it usually hangs on the wall.]
